My Journey with the BCNA

My Journey with the BCNA

It’s almost 16 years since I finished my year-long treatment for breast cancer and sent a copy of my newly-published book You can get through this! to Lyn Swinburne, founder of the young and still relatively small Breast Cancer Network of Australia (BCNA). She liked it, gave me a wonderful endorsement and bought a number of copies to give away to women she thought would find it helpful.

A year or so later, Lyn thought of me when she needed someone to help write the first My Journey Kit. The Kit was a breakthrough at the time – a free, comprehensive guide designed to help women newly-diagnosed with breast cancer to navigate all of the challenges they might have to face, from treatment side-effects to managing the costs.

Over the years, the Kit has been updated and revised and, at the end of last year, I helped write a new version, pulling together all of those changes. Then, back in 2015, the BCNA announced that they had delivered the Kit to the 100,000th recipient.

My book is also in its second edition and has retained its place in the Kit as recommended reading.

So, while my journey through breast cancer appears to have come to an end, I hope my journey with the BCNA will long continue.
